The Folkcraft Instruments CSH-BW Dulcimer is a very cool and unique acoustic instrument. Admittedly, I know very little about dulcimers, but one of the studios that I frequent has one of these on hand and I've played with it a bunch there. While I'm not a real dulcimer player, I do play a lot of stringed instruments and was able to at least get some interesting sounds with it. I haven't ended up recording anything with it quite yet as I'd love to get one of these at home and get better at playing it. The CSH-BW Dulcimer in particular seems to be a very well made instrument, but I don't have too much to compare it to since it's the only dulcimer that I've got any real experience with. This is just an acoustic instrument, although there are similar models that do have a pick up, but from what I can remember this one doesn't. For those that haven't heard a dulcimer from the source, it's a very folky sounding instrument, reminiscent of that Appalachian sound. Again, I'm not sure what level of instrument this would be considered, but it seems like it's not a professional one. However, for anyone less than a professional dulcimer player, it's probably going to do the job just fine, especially for someone like me who is just trying out playing it. I really like the sound of this dulcimer and think it would be a great starter instrument for me if I were to pick one up for myself. It's not very expensive but isn't super cheap either, which is about right considering it's a well built instrument. I'd check out the Folkcraft Instruments CSH-BW Dulcimer and the other dulcimers that are made by Folkcraft if you're looking to try out this ancient instrument.
